Stewart Wins in Tampa
A crazy night in Tampa as Malcolm Stewart got his first ever main event win, but behind the famous name came a lot of drama and injuries. Eli Tomac hurt himself early in the night, but fought through the pain to finish in 17th place and the other Lawrence, Hunter, crashed out and that ended his night.
Malcolm Stewart: Once I did my knee in 2023, I tried to rebuild myself and people don’t realize when you have an injury like that, I was fighting everything. Dad came to me and told me I needed to quite racing, or just have fun out there, this isn’t for the pay cheques and fast forward to 2025, I had a great off season and if I was going to win a main, it was this year. When Chase went down, I couldn’t hear my motor. I want to have this win for my brother, and he is as proud of me as myself. I love your brother.
Ken Roczen who was well up in the main event crashed out and ended back at the rear of the field, and Chase Sexton, who led early, also crashed out to finish off the podium places. He still leads the championship, but Cooper Webb, who did make the podium is coming for him, and we all know what Webb is capable of when he gets warmed up.
With the lead Sexton looked like he was going to win it, and behind him Roczen and Anderson were racing well, and then Stewart made his charge, passing Anderson and then Roczen. Roczen crashed hard while lapping riders and then his chain fell off.
Tomac just hammed laps but couldn’t make it happen and when Stewart got onto the back wheel of Sexton, the pressure became too much and he went down, Stewart nearly collection him as he took the lead and the win.
Cooper Webb and Jason Anderson, two former AMA supercross champions are starting to warm up and do not be surprised to see these two close the points gap to series leader, Sexton.
