MXlarge owner, Geoff Meyer was once a photographer and shot these nice images from the Spanish Grand Prix in 2005 at the Bellpuig circuit. 20 years ago and times have changed a lot in the sport and all these men have long retired.

Names like Stefan Everts, Joel Smets, Josh Coppins, Ben Townley, Billy Mackenzie, Andrew McFarlane, Alessio Chiodi, Antonio Cairoli, Stephen Sword, Ken De Dycker, Tyla Rattray, Mickeal Pichon, all gave us special times in this era. For many of us old guys, it seems like yesterday, and for the youngsters of the sport, it was a life-time ago.

It was the second round of the 2005 championship, won by Townley with 2-3 results, with Pichon second with 1-6 and Joel Smets with 7-1. Coppins was fourth with 4-4 and Everts fifth with 8-2. A mixed up day with a lot of legends involved.

In the MX2 class two legends led the way with Chiodi winning with 2-3, Cairoli second with 1-9 and Sword third with 8-4. Like the MX1 class, it was a rollercoaster for everyone in the 250 class. Mackenzie and McFarlane won a race each, but scored zero points in their other race.

Of course by seasons end, Everts won the MX1 title, his ninth World title and Cairoli picked up his first ever World title. It was Chiodi's last ever GP win and Townleys first in the 450 class. The New Zealand of course went on to perform well at the Ernee held MXdN and headed to America and a year later, The King Stefan Everts retired from the sport.

As for the photographer, well, Mr Meyer, he is in his 54th year following the sport, his 40th reporting on the sport Worldwide and his 30th covering the GP scene.
