De Wolf Wins Sardinia
Nestaan Husqvarna factory rider Kay De Wolf might have crashed in the second MX2 moto, but his 1-1 performance was more than enough to give him his 10th Grand Prix victory in his career and regain the red plate.
The defending champion looked very smart in race one, was in control of race two until he made a mistake but still was too strong and consistent for his opposition as he caught and repassed Andrea Adamo for the second moto win.
The top three were Kay de Wolf with 1-1 and 50 points, Camden Mc Lellan 2-3 and 42pts and Andrea Adamo with 5-2 and 40pts. World championship points are now Kay de Wolf 185 points, Simon Längenfelder 177pts, Liam Everts 175pts, Andrea Adamo 171pts, Sacha Coenen 143pts.
Kay De Wolf: I had a big crash in time practice and it wasn't on TV. At that point I wasn't sure I was going to race. I made it a fun race. First leading and they (track builders) flattened the corner (between motos) and I hit a clump of dirt and went down. I knew I would be strong in the closing laps. It was a fun one and have my 10th GP in my life. One I will remember forever.
Camden McLellan: I love this place, good memories and I came in with good vibes and I feel good physically and this is a good way to get it going after the other rounds.
Andrea Adamo: It is super. I mean, I led a bit of the moto and then Kay passed and he made a mistake, but I knew he was coming and I was ready, but I opened the corner and he got me. I wanted to win, because he has just one sector to go, but lets go to the next one. I am very happy.
MX2 Moto Two
Adamo led the second MX2 moto from Valk, Everts, De Wolf, Prugnieres, Reisulis, Braceras, Elzinga, Langenfelder and Benistant. Valk pushing Adamo hard for the lead. De Wolf into second as he passed Valk, and Everts in fourth place.
On lap two it was Adamo, de Wolf, Valk, Everts, Prugnieres, Reisulis, Langenfelder, McLellan, Elzinga, and Coenen 10th. De Wolf just blasted into the lead and is looking very nice. Everts a couple of seconds behind Valk, with Sasha Coenen into 10th place.
On lap five it was de Wolf with a one second lead over Adamo, with Valk five seconds back and Everts closing on the Dutchman. Then came Prugineres, McLellan, Reisulis, Elzinga, Coenen in 10th. Benistant 11th, Zanchi 12th and Lata 15th.
Everts moved into third place on lap 10, but was 11 seconds down on Adamo. Further back, Coenen passed Langenfelder and the top ten was de Wolf, Adamo, Everts, Valk, McLellan, Pruginieres, Coenen, Langenfelder, Reisulis, and Elzinga 10th. Coenen and Langenfelder then both passed Pruginieres.
McLellan passed Valk and Coenen did the same, just as Adamo passed De Wolf and the top ten on lap 11 was Adamo, de Wolf, Everts, McLellan, Coenen, Valk, Langenfelder, Prugineres, Elzinga and Reisulis 10th.
Adamo now with a lead of 8.4 seconds, followed by de Wolf, then Everts, just a few seconds behind his teammate, in fourth was McLellan with Coenen all over the South African charger. Everts a mistake and he dropped to fifth place as both McLellan and Coenen went past.
De Wolf was clocking some great laps as he continued to close down the gap to leader, Adamo, and on lap 15 it was Adamo, de Wolf, McLellan, Coenen, Everts, Langenfelder, Elzinga, Prugnieres, Benistant and Reisulis 10th. De Wolf closed right up on Adamo and just 1.8 seconds with three laps remaining.
De Wolf all over Adamo and sure to pass with much better speed and lines. Sensational laps by both Adamo and de Wolf as they battled for the moto win and De Wolf such a beautiful style in the sand. Last lap de Wolf a beautiful pass for a 1-1 performance in the deep sand of Riola.
