British Championship - Drama
Drama in the UK as the latest round of the Dirt Store British motocross championship was cancelled after the MXGP and MX2 classes ran just one moto. A big pity with a huge crowd in attendance and a very impressive circuit.
We have been informed by a very good source that the event actually had four ambulances, but there were two race accidents that took two of the ambulances and then a spectator seemingly had a heart attack and took up the other ambulance, leaving just one ambulance at the circuit. You are not allowed to run an event with just one ambulance. It was just bad luck and no real fault of the promoter or the tracks crew.
Possibly, the promoters should have informed the media and put a better message on their own social media pages, that this was the case and then so many people wouldn't be up in arms about the days turn of events.
The promoters, who have been stood down at the end of this season, with the series being taken over by the once again by the ACU, had earlier in the day, put on their social media.
"Medical Delay Forces Race Schedule Amendment. Racing will commence with full second block scheduled within 90 minutes. If you are at the event, head over to the trade, caterers, teams and Dragon Energy!"
Then, an hour or so later another message, while there seems to have not been an announcement to the public about the cancellation, just via social media.
“Racing impacted by rider and spectator welfare, no further racing will take place. Trade and catering will remain open until the last spectator leaves site. Podium for race one will commence in 30 minutes.”
In a strange turn of events, the spectators were seemingly not informed that the meeting had been cancelled, or if they were, many didn't get the message and hung around waiting for racing to restart.
Gareth Hockey, who runs the promotional team for the Dirt Store British motocross championship is a great guy and always tries his best for the sports progress, and putting it into a better light. Just an unfortunate day for him, the track owners, the riders, the teams and the spectators who attended.
Dutchman Cas Valk won the MX2 class with a moto win ahead of Jack Chambers and Joel Rizzi, while British 450 champion Conrad Mewse won the MXGP moto from GP legend Jeffrey Herlings and local rider Tristan Purdon.
