Crendon Tru7 Honda's Conrad Mewse has won the opening round of the British Motocross championship with a 1-1 performance at the Hawkstone Park circuit. Adam Sterry went 2-2 for second overall and third overall was Josh Gilbert with 4-3 scores.

Conrad Mewse: I just messed the start up again, which made life difficult. I was happy with that one, the bike was working great, but speaking to Adam (Sterry) he was also struggling. I thought it was a bit wet and it was more like the International race and I had set my bike up for hard, square bumps. Thanks to Rob my mechanic and the team. Nice to be back in the British paddock.

Adam Sterry: I mean, coming in we knew Conrad was the guy to beat and two second places. A little disappointing with the second half of the races and had trouble with my suspension and I don't know if that is because the sand was hard. I want to thank Tim and Mike from Chambers and its nice to get a good results for them, its a good group of people to work with. I had a couple of bad years, which wasn't good for my confidence. I want to improve my GP results.

Josh Gilbert: I had a nice line and Adam was up the inside and I passed him where I made a mistake and the line went into a bog and I hit a patch of water and got stuck in there and my hands were wet and it knocked the wind out of my sail. I forgot about it in the second and I thought we were on a good race. Conrad went past and I settled for third, after the day I had.

MX1 Moto Two

Sterry led the second MX1 moto from Gilbert and Edwards with Mewse back in 13th place. Mewse up to seventh place as Sterry had gapped Gulbert by 1.4 seconds, with Edwards a further six seconds back in third place.

Mewse up to fifth place and still charging as Sterry was 1.4 ahead of Gilbert, with Edwards now 13 seconds back in third place. Sterry maintaining his lead over Gilbert, with Mewse into third place, but 15 seconds off the leader. Gilbert into the lead and Mewse not making a lot of ground on the guys in front.

Sterry back in the lead and the gap was 5.3 seconds over Gilbert, with Mewse a further 6.4 seconds back in third place. Mewse doing his version of Jeffrey Herlings as he started to close the gap to Sterry and the lead. Mewse suddenly all over Sterry and the Honda man took the lead and the overall victory.
