Wilson Crowned at Manchester
Dean Wilson is the 2025 Arenacross British champion! The Armor Vision / St. Blazey Honda rider took another empathic win at the 100th night of Arenacross and the final round in Manchester’s AO Arena to clean sweep the British championship and comfortably secure his spot for the Arenacross World Tour Finals in Abu Dhabi on July 5th.
Wilson made it six for six Arenacross British championship main event wins and in doing so also picked up his first AX World Tour qualifying win after finishing third in the opening round in Birmingham back in early January. After starting second, Wilson put a move on former three-time champion Thomas Ramette (SR75 World Team Suzuki) on lap three and stretched out from the rest of the field from there to seal his first ever British championship.
American, Michael Hicks, racing his first ever Arenacross in the U.K, was the best of the rest with a solid second on his debut for the tour and the Stark Future Racing team filling in for the injured Jorge Zaragoza. Early leader Ramette followed Hicks over the line for third.
Adrien Escoffier (D.A.D / AWP Racing) put in another solid performance for fourth ahead of Conrad Mewse (Crendon Tru 7 Honda Racing) who couldn’t quite find the pace he’d shown at previous rounds. Cedric Soubeyras (DRT Kawasaki U.K) charged through the pack after crashing in the first corner to claim sixth.
Defending champion Jack Brunell (Stark Future Racing) came in eight on the night to lock down third in the 2025 AX British championship behind Wilson and Mewse and in doing so help the Stark Future Racing team secure back-to-back Arenacross Team championship wins.
The racing all night was again, frantic, with all the British Arenacross titles on the line across all classes. In the Amateur class it was Raife Broadley who reigned supreme with a brilliant race win when the pressure was on, coming into the final round he was just one point ahead of Louis Brookes.
He absolutely rocketed out of the start gate and lead every lap to take the crown. Brookes made several passes to get into second but it was a stretch too far to catch Broadley. Sion Talbot continued his late series form to take third on the night and in the championship.
The ‘AX Futures’ championship was won by Issac Ash, adding the title to his previous Supermini championship, but the day belonged to Austin Beasty going 1-1 to end his championship on a high with his second overall win of the series and secure him third in the championship. Last year’s Supermini champion, Harry Lee, gave it all he had to try and pip Ash to the post in the championship and yet again the pair of them tied on points and although he beat Ash for second overall on the day he had to accept second in the championship, much to his obvious disappointment.
History was made in the Supermini class by John Slade becoming the first ‘small wheeled’ racer to take the title. He took the first moto win to give him a good points buffer to work with in the second and after leading most of the race he was eventually caught by George Cherry but showing maturity beyond his years he pulled over to let George through to safely bring it home for the championship, his second on the spin after winning the ‘mini’ class last year. With his second moto race win Cherry took second overall on the night with Oliver Williams again a solid third at the final round and also in the championship.
Cameron Berry did all he could to win the AX Mini’s championship going 1-1 at Manchester but it wasn’t to be as Mason Straddon again rode smooth and smart to go 2-2 and take the title. Consistency has paid for Straddon having never been outside the top two in any race throughout the championship. It’s also been a solid series for Frank Bishop who yet again finished on the box to take third on the night and in the final championship standings.
The 100th night of Arenacross certainly didn’t disappoint and the additional ‘Celebs go racing’ and ‘the Amped road to Manchester’ balance bike races brought some extra flavour to the party atmosphere. Mark McCann took a surprise victory in the celebrity minibike race, even though he has plenty of off-road riding experience most people were expecting Speedway GP and World Cup winner Dan Bewley to power to victory but unlike his usual starts in Speedway, he fluffed it and stalled the bike. Former Emmerdale actor and 2019 Strictly Come dancing champion Kelvin Fletcher rounded off the podium in third ahead of GT Cup car racer Seb Morris, rock singer Rick Parfitt Jr and Radio 2 DJ, O.J Borg.
After hundreds of applications to race ‘the Amped race to Manchester’ by parents sending video clips of their kids riding their balance bikes, ten riders were selected to race in front of a packed-out AO Arena at Manchester and the chance to win a 10Ten MXE-RS bike courtesy of Dualways.
That bike went to an ecstatic Rafe Harwood, taking the race win over Marley Butler in second with Harley Beckett in third. With intense and exciting racing throughout the day and night, champions crowned, three brilliant FMX shows and ‘the Fuel Girls’ both lighting up the show further, the 100th of Arenacross certainly didn’t disappoint.
Now the Arenacross championship looks forward to a new chapter, the first ever AX World Tour Finals at the awesome Etihad Arena, on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on Saturday 5th July.
