  • Race Report

Kawasaki factory rider Jeremy Seewer has pulled off a great moto win at the MXGP of Turkey as he took the lead on lap one of the MXGP opening race, and never gave it away. Riding smooth and calm he looked very consistent.

The championship battle was interesting as Jorge Prado and Tim Gajser battled through the moto for third and fourth place finishes and Jeffrey Herlings, who nearly went down in an start straight crash, did eventually slip over and had to come back from outside the top twenty. His championship really seems over now.

Championship points are now Tim Gajser 888 points, Jorge Prado 871pts and Jeffrey Herlings 837pts. So, Gajser with 17 points over Prado and 51pts over Herlings.

Jeremy Seewer: Yes and no (about it being easy), with a start like that, life is easier and I felt good all weekend, better than last year and the other GPs this year. The top three have a good pace and I managed to lead, manage the gap and get the win.

MXGP Moto One

Big crash in the start straight, but it was Seewer with the lead, then Gajser, Renaux, Fernandez, Herlings, Guadagnini, Prado, Bonacorsi, Forato, and Coldenhoff 10th. Febvre involved in the crash and Herlings and Prado involved, but they just missed going down. Prado into fourth place as he moved past Fernandez, and Herlings sixth.

Prado knows he needs points, and he needs them now. Herlings down and losing places fast, his championship is probably over. 20th place for the Dutchman. Gajser tried a pass on Seewer, but the two collided, this is again MXGP mayhem.

Ridiculous pace again as the top four guys fight for the points, as Seewer continued to lead with Gajser, Renaux, Prado, Fernandez, Bonacorsi, Coldenhoff, Forato, Toendel, and Febvre coming back from last to already be in 10th.

Renaux moved past Gajser as again the non-championship contenders making life tough for the big three. Gajser and Prado in a battle for third and the championship. Gajser looking desperate to pass Renaux, but instead, Prado passed the Honda rider.

Lap two it was Seewer, Renaux, Prado, Gajser, Fernandez, Bonacorsi, Coldenhoff, Forato, Toendel and Febvre. Herlings into 18th, but not really making much ground. Prado now all over Renaux for second place and Gajser losing a little ground on Prado.

Lap five it was Seewer with a four second lead over Renaux, then Prado right on the back wheel of the Frenchman, followed by Gajser who was 6.1 off the leader. Behind Gajser came Bonacorsi, Fernandez, Coldenhoff, Forato, Febvre and Toendel 10th. Herlings still struggling in 16th place and 38 seconds off the leaders.

Not a lot changed and on lap seven Seewer still led with a 4.4 second lead over Renaux, then Prado, Gajser, Bonacorsi, Fernandez, Coldenhoff, Forato, Febvre, Guillod, in 10th. Herlings still well back in 14th place and 44 seconds off the pace of Renaux.

Gajser back onto Prado and looking very calm and collected as he chases his title nemesis. Herlings 13th and 46 seconds off the leader. On lap eight the lead was 5.6 seconds over Renaux, who does seem to be holding Prado and Gajser up a little. 10 minutes to go, but its hard to see Herlings make up too many more places. He might be able to get to fifth at best. He moved into 12th with a pass on Bogers.

Prado needs to look out, because he looks desperate to pass Renaux, who is clearly slowing him up, but on this circuit, a mistake could easily mean a crash. Lap 11 and the lead by Seewer was 6.6 seconds and Herlings moved into 11th place, but 20 seconds off Bonacorsi in fifth.

Lap 13 and two minutes and three laps remaining the lead by Seewer was 5.9 seconds ahead of Renaux, then came Prado, Gajser, Bonacorsi, Fernandez, Coldenhoff, Febvre, Forato, and Horgmo 10th. Herlings 11th and five seconds back from 10th position.

Gajser a mistake and nearly slipped over and lost a lot of ground on Prado, now 10 seconds off Seewer and two seconds behind Prado. Seewer wins it from Renaux and Prado. Prado very aggitated at the end of the moto and showing huge emotion, throwing his goggles and looking very bothered by something.
