  • Race Report

Red Bull GasGas factory rider Jorge Prado has produced a beautiful performance to win the opening MXGP moto and while he himself has said he isn’t good at passing, today he started back in around 12th and made his way to first, on a track, that is very difficult for passing.

Second was Tim Gajser, who had led the race early and third was Romain Febvre, with Seewer fourth and Herlings fifth. Prado gains on Gajser in the championship and Herlings drops a stack of points on the leading two.

Jorge Prado: Super bad start, I don’t know what happens, my reaction was bad also yesterday. What a race, I had to pass everyone, and we know its hard to pass here. So happy to get points on Gajser, but still struggling with the lappers.

Championship points are now Tim Gajser 737 points, Jorge Prado 715pts and Jeffrey Herlings 687pts. So, Gajser has 22 points over Prado and 50 points over Herlings.

MXGP Moto One

Gifting led the MXGP moto one from Seewer, Febvre, Gajser, Guillod, Vlaanderen, Pancar, Toendel, Coldenhoff and Herlings. Prado in 12th place. Prado moved into 10th and Herlings 11th. Incredible Gifting sending the crowd into a frenzy, brilliant for the Swedes.

Prado into ninth and Gifting still led from Seewer and Febvre, with Gajser fourth, then Vlaanderen, Guillod, Prado, Pancar, Coldenhoff, Herlings in 10th. Prado into sixth and showing great passing skills, something he himself said he isn’t good at, but proving himself wrong on this occasion. Prado fifth and really flying.

Gifting still leading on lap two and making a gap to Seewer and Febvre, with Gajser a few bike lengths back in fourth, then Prado a second behind the Slovenian. Herlings still stuck in 10th place and making no ground, although just nine seconds off the leader. Herlings into ninth.

Prado quickest lap of the moto and putting pressure on Gajser, Febvre and Seewer. Herlings all over Guillod and Pancar and 11 seconds off the leader. Herlings into eight place and now aiming to pass Guillod. Seewer tried a pass on Gifting, but they nearly collided and Gifting remained in first. The front two getting away from Febvre, with Gajser gapping Prado a little.

Seewer into the lead and Febvre also looking for a way past Gifting. Gajser moved past Febvre for third place and making big points on Prado and Herlings. Herlings making not a lot of progress in eighth and can’t pass Guillod. Herlings 13 seconds off the leader.

Gajser into second place and looking very strong, Herlings past Guillod and now its warming up. Prado all over Febvre for fourth place and passed on lap five. Herlings four seconds behind Vlaanderen. Prado into third place and looking very sharp.

Lap five it was Seewer, Gajser, Prado, Febvre, Gifting, Vlaanderen, Herlings, Guillod, Pancar and Coldenhoff 10th. Herlings 13 seconds off the leader and closing on Vlaanderen. Still 17 minutes and two laps remaining. Vlaanderen passed Gifting and Herlings also looking to pass the Swede. Herlings not losing ground on Gajser and we know he is capable of a charge to the front with 10 minutes remaining.

Lap seven it was Seewer, Gajser, Prado, Febvre, Vlaanderen, Herlings, Gifting, Guillod, Pancar and Coldenhoff. Gajser close to Seewer, but not close enough to pass, but looking very patient. Herlings now 13.6 behind Seewer and Prado 2.2 behind the leader. Gajser looking so good and looking likely to pass Seewer. Herlings now 14 seconds off Seewer.

Febvre not letting Prado get away and possibly looking for a way past and both Prado and Febvre getting a little closer to the front two. Herlings 15 seconds off the leader. Four way battle for the lead with Vlaanderen 11 seconds back and Herlings 14.6 behind. 10 minutes remaining, usually the go time for Herlings, but it doesn’t look likely today.

Prado all over Gajser and Seewer trying to fight those two off as Febvre loses ground and Herlings now nearly 15 seconds off the leader. Gajser into the lead and no doubt wanting to get away from Prado, but Prado followed him through to second place. Prado into the lead with a beautiful pass and the Spaniard really on fire. The two nearly collided, but Gajser had to back off, otherwise they collided.

On lap 12 it was Prado, Gajser, Febvre, Seewer, Vlaanderen, Herlings, Gifting, Pancar, Guillod, and Coldenhoff. Herlings championship might be done here in Sweden today, unless something very strange happens to Gajser and Prado. Herlings all over Vlaanderen, but the top four are long gone. Prado quickest lap of the race again and a 1.8 second lead over Gajser.

Herlings into fifth place and slowly catching Seewer for fourth place. Herlings all over Seewer for fourth place, but the other three are long gone. Herlings all over Seewer, but struggling to get past. Herlings stalled the bike and will finish in fifth. Prado wins it from Gajser and Febvre.
