Crendon Tru7 Honda's Conrad Mewse pulled off a nice moto win in the opening moto of the British motocross championship, at Hawkstone Park. After a poor start, the former British 450 and 250 champion closed down the lead of Adam Sterry, late in the race to win it easily. Sterry finished second and third in the moto was Tristan Purdon.

Conrad Mewse: That was, not the best race for me, to start the season. Start was mega, but got swallowed up in the sand and I am not happy with how I rode. I hope we are better in the second one. I am not going to mix it up with Chase Sexton riding like that. We got the win, great to start the season, but we will make some changes for the second one and go for the win.

Mills with the lead in the MX1 moto one with Sterry quickly into the lead. Mewse back in seventh. Martin Barr in 12th and Rizzi 13th. Sterry looking very fast up front.

Mewse into third place, but eight seconds off the lead of Sterry, with Purdon in second, but Mewse into second place and 11 seconds off the leader, Sterry. Mewse closing to gap to Sterry as the former British champion is now just eight seconds off the leader.

Sterry holding his nerve and seemed to be maintaining his lead, but then suddenly another two seconds were cut as Mewse was really warming up around the tough sand track. Gilbert into fifth place. The lead by Sterry was 6.5 seconds and the final laps of this moto were going to be something special.

Mewse suddenly just three seconds off the lead of Sterry and really building some serious speed. Purdon in third was 17 seconds off the lead, with Gilbert in fourth, a further 14 seconds behind.

Mewse into the lead as he passed Sterry, a very good ride by the Honda man. Mewse gapped Sterry quickly, by around 20 seconds and won the moto. Sterry had a big lead over third placed man Purdon.
