Three of the all-time great legends of not only AMA racing, but World motocross are without question, Ricky Carmichael, Ryan Dungey and Ricky Johnson. All muti-time champions in both supercross and motocross and also multi-time winners for Team USA at the Motocross des Nations. All three talk about the chances of Jett Lawrence winning in 2025 and its pretty interesting stuff.

Carmichael had a rather interesting view on how it will be for Jett Lawrence and his opposition, having the feeling Lawrence has less to learn than the likes of Sexton, Tomac, Webb, who are all in fact, older than Jett, and probably less likely to improve than the young Aussie.

“He has a target on his back and the other riders have more areas to improve, while Jett has less areas to improve, so everyone is going to step their game up a little bit more. It is going to be more challenging for Jett, so kind of like, double edge, right there. His bike is better, but at the same time, I feel like everyone has stepped up, so.”

“I think for Jett and also Haiden, their biggest challenge is going to be handling the outside noise. Just go to the races and do exactly what you (RV) said, you go out and worry about you and perform at the level you know and just roll on dude. Make your spot in history. Dude, in my 125 days, in 2001, when I was winning a lot of races and was going to win my first supercross championship, they loved it and then I went to Honda and then instant hate. I turned the corner when I went back to Suzuki. I was enjoying myself more and there isn’t anything you can change, it’s the nature of the World we live in. Go crush some records and keep doing what you are doing.”

Villopoto who was also a super successful racer, with a handful of AMA titles and MXoN victories seems to be a big Lawrence fan and gave his opinion on some of the things the Aussie will deal with in 2025.

“Once you win one, everyone is trying to dethrone you. First one, its like, okay, lets see what happens for championship number two. When you start stringing like Jett has, he has pretty much won every championship, that he has competed in, if not every single one. Human nature, it does start to creep into the back of your head, like, how long can I keep doing this. You need to stop thinking that way right, but it’s human nature and you start to wonder, and Jett has set the bar, so riders like Eli, Chase and the others, they know where the bar is set.”

“So, Jett has to raise that bar, or Eli, or Jorge, or Chase, they need to surpass that bar, that Jett set last year. So, Jett can see they are going faster and its hard for the guy who is winning all the time, because there is nothing else to chase. It is easier when the carrot is dangled in front of you, like it would be for Chase, or Eli, or any of those guys who are chasing. Jett is in the dark, he needs to keep pushing to get to that next level.”

“Its tough right (dealing with haters), I saw you (RC) deal with that, going in as a fan favourite and then getting booed for whatever reason. It is obviously not a great feeling. We saw some of those interviews, leading into the 2025 season, some of the unhappiness from Jett about the fans, Jett not being stocked on what he was receiving from the fans. As a racer and as you know Ricky, you are always going to have those keyboard warriors, those people who sit on the sidelines and can say this or say that. They don’t know what these riders are dealing with, at this high level of racing. If I was his coach, his trainer, his mentor, you gotta block it all out and focus on yourself, period.”

“Everyone wants the guy to be knocked off the pedestal, and one a gut like Jett has won everything he has entered in a championship, eventually you have fans in general, who are going to switch, because maybe they had loved him, they are going to say, okay, I might like Jett, I don’t love him anymore, but I would like to see Eli come in and beat him. From my standpoint, as a previous racer and an ex-champion, when you see a guy performing as well as you do and the things Jett can do on the motorcycle, that is one of the most impressive parts about him, regardless of what he might say or do. He is being himself and you are always going to have those haters. You just have to put the hater blockers on and block it out.”

“It is hard to bet against Jett, but it’s been quiet lead up with video stand points and from the fans being able to look inside. I am really excited to see where Eli lines up. From what I have seen from the overseas races, Eli looks really, really good, but you cannot take anything away from Jett and he will be the top dog to dethrone, but I hope those two battle it out in this 2025 season. I am a fan on the Eli standpoint as we know its is his last season and he is firing on cylinders, and I think Jett set the bar and Eli knows where he has to go, and I think he has bridged that gap.”

Johnson also a multiple time AMA supercross and motocross champion from the 1980s and one of the all-time greats in the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations also has his opinion on the 2025 season.

“I think Jett’s biggest problem is going to be Jett. I look at the Lawrence camp and it’s like MTV cribs on steroids. They have Bentleys and Porsches and houses, and all this great stuff and they are in the 10’s of millions and if they quite riding tomorrow, they will have enough money to live their lives. We are talking generational wealth and when you do that and you realize, I have been doing this since I was a little kid, and I am hurting myself every day and I see his celebrations now less and less exciting. It is kind of becoming ho-hum for him. I think the best thing for Jett is if Eli Tomac comes out and whips his ass, because it doesn’t matter if you are on top, it is how hard it is to stay on top. There is no denying, he is the best guy, the fastest guy, the best on the bike, how do you keep that motivation, and I have been there. What kept me motivated was a Jeff Ward, David Bailey or Ron Lechien, Broc Glover or Bob Hannah coming back and whipping my ass.”
