Langenfelder Wins Moto One
Red Bull KTM factory rider Simon Langenfelder has won the opening moto of the Italian International at Montevarchi in Italy. Former World MX2 champion, Andrea Adamo, also of the Red Bull KTM factory team was second. The Italian led early after passing early leader Valerio Lata, but Langenfelder passed Adamo when he crashed in the final lap. Third was Valerio Lata of the HRC factory team.
Simon Langenfelder: Finally took my pre-season race win here in Montevachi, it wasn’t easy, my start wasn’t great, but I got into second and pressured Andrea and he made a mistake, and I was able to pass him. Let’s hope for another good one in the second race.
Lata led the opening MX2 moto with Sasha Coenen down in the first corner, with Andrea Adamo second and Zanchi third, then Langenfelder, Hsu, Fredsoe, Valk, Rispoli, Orlando, Ruffini, in 10th. Coenen was back in 31st. Zanchi crashed and dropped back, and Coenen went down again, continuing is reckless form from last year.
On lap three Adamo held a nice lead over Lata, which was 3.5 seconds, with Langenfelder third, then Valk, Hsu, Zanchi, Fredsoe, Rispoli, Orlando, Mikula in 10th. Coenen was 27th. Zanchi got going again and passed Hsu for fifth place.
Langenfelder was hounding Lata for second place and both looking very aggressive around this Italian hard pack circuit. Langenfelder moved into second place, with Adamo six second ahead of the German rider.
On lap six it was Adamo, Langenfelder, Lata, Valk, Zanchi, Fredsoe, Hsu, Rispoli, Mikula, Orlando in 10th and Coenen was up to 20th place. Adamo remained with around five seconds over Langenfelder, with Lata still third, and Valk and Zanchi filled out the top five. Coenen was up to 14th place and getting plenty of passing practice.
Zanchi passed Valk for fourth place and on lap 10 the lead by Adamo over Langenfelder was nice four seconds. Lata in third was 15 seconds off he leader. Coenen into 12th place and a nice charge through the field.
Langenfelder all over the back wheel of Adamo as he made up big ground in the closing stages of the moto, and the Italian was feeling the pressure as he continued to look over his shoulder. The final three laps sigh probably didn’t make those nerves any less. Lapped riders everywhere as Coenen moved into 11th place.
Langenfelder looking a lot quicker and Adamo will get a stiff neck if he continues to look back so often and then it happened, the Italian went down under the pressure and Langenfelder took the lead. It all happened on the final lap. Langenfelder wins from Adamo and Lata.
