Kay De Wolf - The Gallery
World MX2 champion, Kay De Wolf of the Nestaan Husqvarna factory team might not hold the red plate after three rounds of the 2025 season, but going by his riding, he sure has learnt a lot from his successful 2024 career defining championship.
The Dutchman seems to have more control of his destiny now and while he sits in third place in the MX2 World championship points, some five points down on series leader, Liam Everts, the way the redhead is riding, give you the feeling it won’t be long before he is putting a lot of pressure on Everts for that red plate.
Only a mechanical issue in the French GP qualification race, where he scored zero points has stopped him from actually grabbing that red plate, and while Everts walked away with eight points on the Saturday in France, de Wolf, who was second at the time, is the only reason, he isn’t leading the series.
Amazingly, with just one moto win so far, and 1-5-3-2-6-4 Sunday results, there isn’t much wrong with his performances, but that DNF due didn’t do him any favours. What my gut feeling is, the next round in Sardinia, will be an all-out war between the two Husky men, and whoever survives, comes out the winner.
“It was definitely a tough weekend, and not the way I wanted things to go. The technical issue in qualifying put us on the back foot straight away, and starting from the outside in the first moto made it even harder. But I gave it everything I had - pushed through the pack, stayed focused, and did what I could in the conditions. The second moto was better, and I felt strong, but a small mistake near the end cost me a chance at third place. Losing the Red Plate is tough, but it’s a long season. I’m more motivated than ever to come back stronger at the next round in Sardinia.”
