  • Race Report

Red Bull KTM factory rider Jeffrey Herlings is definitely on a run to the championship as he collected yet another moto win and while the points gain is minimal, the momentum is right with “The Bullet”.

Jeffrey Herlings: I am trying (to get back to his best). I started in 8th, which wasn't great, and managed to pass Jorge. I had some arm pump, but my 200th moto win, so pretty happy with that record as well. With all the bad luck I have had at this circuit, I would like to put it on the podium.

Second was defending champion Jorge Prado, who had led early and third was Mr Safe, Tim Gajser, who can really just continue to pick up podium finishes and continue to keep his huge points lead. It was Herlings 200th race win of his incredible career.

Very small change in the points, with Gajser on 638 points, Prado 605 and Herlings 590pts. So Gajser holds 33 points over Prado and 48 over Herlings. Herlings just 15 points behind Prado now and charging hard.

MXGP Moto One

Seewer led the opening MXGP moto from Paturel, Prado, Gajser, Herlings, Bogers, Guadagnini, Koch, Vlaanderen, Gifting and Van Doninck. Febvre 11th. Prado quickly into the lead as he passed Seewer and you just know Gajser and Herlings have to follow to have any chance. Herlings into second place and is right onto Prado, and Gajser looking for a way past Seewer.

Gajser into third place and the big three are first, second and third again!!! Herlings looking very strong behind Prado, and Gajser coming towards them. Herlings really sticking to the back wheel of Prado, and Gajser struggling a little to stay with them.

Herlings the quickest lap of the race so far and all over Prado. This is the old Jeffrey Herlings, without doubt. Prado doing some really nice lines and getting away from Herlings, the intensity is just crazy in the MXGP class.

On lap three it was Prado with less than a second lead over Herlings, then Gajser 4.6 seconds back, then Seewer, Paturel, Bogers, Vlaanderen, Guadagini, Febvre, and Van Doninck. Prado the quickest lap of the moto, but Herlings comes back with a quick lap of his own.

Herlings not letting the Spaniard get away from him and we all know Herlings comes on strong in the second half of the moto. Gajser now 6.3 seconds off the lead of Prado. Lap five and the lead by Prado is just over a second and Gajser is seven seconds back.

Herlings into the lead and maybe Prado wants to follow for a while, although the lead was quickly 1.5 seconds. Gajser 7.6 second back in third place and Seewrr 10 seconds off Herlings pace. Lap eight and the lead was 2.3 seconds and Gajser catching the Spaniard. Then the lead was 3.2, Herlings is on it!!!

Lap 10 and the lead was 4.3 seconds, with Prado second and Gajser a further five seconds back in third, then came Seewer, Paturel, Vlaanderen, Febvre, Bogers, Guadagnini, and Van Doninck. 10 minutes remaining and two laps and this is usually when Herlings turns it on, but you assume with the warm weather, he might try and cruise the final part of this moto and save energy for the second race.

Gajser definitely making ground on Prado as the gap between them was just four seconds. Prado looking a little defeated and maybe also saving energy for the second race. The lead was suddenly 5.1 seconds. Gajser though now 10 seconds off the leader. Lap 12 and the lead was 5.3, with Gajser in third now just three seconds off the pace of Prado.

Lap 13 the lead was 6.8, but Prao made a nice gap on Gajser, who was now 11 seconds off the leader and thus four seconds away from Prado. Febvre into sixth place as he passed fellow Frenchman, Paturel. On lap 14 the top ten was Herlings, Prado, Gajser, Seewer, Vlaanderen, Febvre, Paturel, Guadagnini, Bogers and Van Doninck.

Coldenhoff moved into 10th as Van Doninck dropped out and that’s four Dutchman in the top ten (Herlings, Vlaanderen, Bogers and Coldenhoff). Herlings wins it from Prado and Gajser.
