Herlings - The Return

Herlings - The Return

I think everyone was happy with the news that Jeffrey Herlings is back riding and going by his video’s he is already looking comfortable. We all know “The Bullet” can come back strong as he has shown time and time again. As a huge Herlings fan, I cannot wait to see him again battle the likes of Tim Gajser and Romain Febvre and once Lucas Coenen gets a little more experience, I think a Herlings vs Coenen fight might be highlight reels for years to come.

Another five time World champion, Tim Gajser is excited to have him back, as those two have more or less owned the MXGP class for most of the last decade. You just know both will be motivated to beat each other and hopefully we do get some amazing battles between the two in 2025. Who knows how many more we get from these two motocross legends.

“Yes,” Gajser said. “For sure, we have had some great battles in the past, really great battles and I saw he is on the bike, and he will soon be back with us, and I definitely look forward to that.”

Joel Smets is also happy to have his fellow legend and five time World champion back, because we all know, Herlings brings something a little more exciting to the sport and nobody catches more eyes than the Dutchman.

“Two GPs into the season and we’ve been dealing with some injuries,” Smets said. “But, looking at the positives I’m happy to be working with Jeffrey again now that he is back on the bike. We’ve all been waiting for his return. Marc-Antoine will need more time and will have surgery tomorrow. We can then start planning his comeback. Andrea has shown a lot of positive things meanwhile and I don’t think we have taken all the championship points that he deserved. From the first qualifying moto in Argentina he has shown good speed and he did it again this weekend in conditions that are maybe not his favourite: that reveals how ready he is. He’s a player for the championship and we’re looking forward to the next races.”

So, please Mr Herlings, come back soon, the sooner the better for us the fans and entertain us again, like you always have in the past. He is pencilled in to race the opening Dutch Masters race at the end of this month, which could mean a return for Riola, but I wouldn't be surprised if he came back in France next weekend. You know he always surprises us.

Missing three GPs, and returning for the Sardinian round would still give him a very outside chance at the title, but returning after four rounds, makes it that much more difficult. If he can return in France, and score some points, then has a weekend break (where he will probably find a place to race), who knows what he is capable of in this very long MXGP championship of 2025.
