Gajser Wins Moto One - Arco

  • Race Report

Already a five-time winner at the Trentino circuit, HRC factory rider, Tim Gajser made sure that the red plate remained on the red Honda for now, as he won the opening MXGP moto after a very smart race. First following leader Romain Febvre for a number of laps and then making a nice pass and pulling away for the moto win and 25 points.

Tim Gajser: I mean, I was enjoying it out there. The track is in better shape than yesterday, it was fast and flat and it rained in the night and that meant more lines. I took a good start and didn't want to pass Romain too fast, then picked the place to pass and got the win.

World championship points are now Tim Gajser 249 points, Romain Febvre 213pts, Glenn Coldenhoff 176pts, Lucas Coenen 161pts and Maxime Renaux 150pts.

MXGP Moto One

Febvre with the lead, then Gajser, Coldenhoff, Renaux, Coenen, Seewer, Fernandez, Cairoli, Herlings, and Horgmo, that is some top ten. Cairoli all over his Ducati team-mate Seewer and Herlings trying his best to stay with them. The lead by Febvre was 1.2 over Gajser, with Coldenhoff, three seconds back in third place.

The lead was 1.1 and Gajser clearly wanting to get that lead and those maximum points. Soon after it as under a second, with Coldenhoff 2.4 seconds back. Gajser not close enough to make a pass, but close enough to keep the Frenchman on his toes, with Coldenhoff getting closer to the two front men.

Lap four and it was Febvre, Gajser, Coldenhoff, Coenen, Renaux, Fernandez, Seewer, Cairoli, Stauffer and Herlings dropped to 10th place. Vlaanderen also passed Herlings as the Dutchman dropped to 11th spot. Stauffer also passed Cairoli, so two big names for the German to pass.

Coenen into third as he relegates Coldenhoff to fourth and Renaux also all over the Dutchman. Coenen more than eight seconds off the leaders, but looking very fast and Geerts closing in on Herlings 11th spot. Top ten on lap was Febvre, Gajser, Coenen, Renaux, Coldenhoff, Fernandez, Seewer, Stauffer, Vlaanderen and Cairoli.

Fernandez a crash and he dropped back to 10th place and Coenen remained around 8 seconds off the two leaders. The lead by Febvre over Gajser was 1.6 seconds. Geerts a mistake and that allowed Herlings some rest. Herlings also passed Cairoli, who was fading.

Febvre maintained his lead over Gajser and Coenen was a solid third, but not making any ground to the front. Top ten on lap 10 was Febvre, Gajser, Coenen, Renaux, Coldenhoff, Seewer, Vlaanderen, Fernandez, Stauffer and Herlings.

Gajser suddenly cut a large portion of the lead and was just 1.3 behind Febvre, with Coenen 11 seconds back in third place and losing ground. Rather big gaps between everyone else inside the top 10. Not your typical lightning Trentino battles today, at least, not yet. Cairoli dropping back to 13th place.

Gajser all over Febvre and a couple of passes further back with Fernandez passing Seewer and Pancar passing Herlings, which dropped the Dutchman to 11th place. Gajser looking very hungry for a moto win and maximum points for the championship.

Gajser blasted his way into the lead and the Slovenian spectators went completely crazy. These are the moments when Gajser shows us he is a class all to himself in championship fights. Febvre thought not giving up and was all over Gajser, but the HRC man held on. Herlings passed by Horgmo for 11th place. Febvre gave it one more push and was all over Gajser, but slipped over and Gajser wins it from Febvre and Coenen.
