Gajser Wins His 50th - Spain
Five time World Motocross Champion, Tim Gajser of the HRC factory team is very much the man of the moment as he clinched his 50th Grand Prix victory, to equal the mark set by the great Joel Robert in 1972. Gajser went 1-1 to make history as he joined a list of the best the sport has ever seen.
The legendary Belgian (Robert) had held the record for most GP wins until that record was broken by Stefan Everts more than 20 years ago. Gajser is only the sixth rider to achieve 50 GP wins in the sports history, the others being Jeffrey Herlings (107), Stefan Everts (101), Antonio Cairoli (94), and Joel Smets (57), Robert (50).
Second overall was Fantic factory rider Glenn Coldenhoff with 4-3 scores and third place went to another Fantic man, Andrea Bonacorsi with 8-2. Not just a great day for HRC, but also for the Fantic team.
Gajser now has a 20 point advantage over second placed man in the championship, Romain Febvre. Championship points are now 1. Tim Gajser 108 points, Romain Febvre 88pts, Maxime Renaux 87pts, Glenn Coldenhoff 79pts and Lucas Coenen 57pts.
MXGP Moto two
Coenen with the lead ahead of Jonass with Fernandez going down in the second corner. It was Coenne from Jonass, Gajser, Coldenhoff, Bonacorsi, Bogers, Febvre, Gifting, Seewer, and Koch 10th. Renaux in 17th as Coenen went down and dropped to fourth spot. Gajser with the lead and that isn’t good for anyone but the HRC man. Geerts went down in the mud as Gajser extended his lead.
Lap one and it was Gajser, Coldenhoff, Jonass, Coenen, Bonacorsi, Febvre, Bogers, Gifting, Koch and Seewer. The lead by Gajser was very quickly 10 seconds, with Jonass and Coenen all over Coldenhoff, until the Belgian crashed again and Gifting ran off the track. A bit of chaos going on in the muddy conditions. Renaux struggling big time in 12th place, as was Vlaanderen in 16th position and Fernandez in 13th spot.
Lap two and Gajser extended his lead to 14 seconds ahead of Coldenhoff, then came Bonacorsi, Bogers, Febvre, Jonass, Gifting, Guadagnini, Coenen and Renaux now 10th.Fernandez, Vlaanderen and Seewer were 14th, 15th and 16th. Brilliant as Fantic held down three top five spots with Coldenhoff, Bonacorsi and Bogers.
On lap five the lead by Gajser was 16 seconds over Coldenhoff as the Fantic boys continued to show the way behind the Slovenian. Kawasaki factory rider Febvre and Jonass were fifth and sixth, then came Gifting, Guadagnini, Coenen and Renaux. On lap eight the lead was 25 seconds, but the top ten didn’t change. Gajser wins the moto and the GP. Brilliant from the Slovenian legend.
