Gajser The Great - Winning

At the start of the weekend in Trentino, Tim Gajser sat with three other legends (Cairoli, Herlings and Prado) as a five time winner of the Trentino GP and he left on Sunday night, with his sixth GP win and his 52nd Grand Prix victory of his career, as he marches towards a sixth World motocross championship, which would make him, statistically, the third most successful rider in the sports history.

A masterclass from Gajser, saw the #243 win both races at the MXGP of Trentino, giving him the maximum 50 points and extending his lead in the 2025 MXGP championship to 39 points.

“I mean, I was enjoying it out there. The track is in better shape than yesterday, it was fast and flat, and it rained in the night and that meant more lines. I took a good start and didn't want to pass Romain too fast, then picked the place to pass and got the win. I mean, I am speechless. I always want to give the fans a win here, it wasn't easy, Febvre was riding good, and it will be crazy on the podium (with the fans). It wasn't easy yesterday, but we made some changes for today.

As always, Gajser took the win in his stride and will return next weekend in Switzerland, ready to extend his lead in the championship points and show his loyal fans why he is worth following, once again. One of the most popular champions in the sports history, the Slovenian just keeps on showing how great he is.

“Very happy with how the weekend went. It wasn’t easy, and I wasn’t so good yesterday but today we made some changes, and it really worked out. I need to thank all the team for the work they did to help me and it’s great to get both the wins today. I’d also like to thank all the fans who come to support me and make this into a ‘home’ GP for me. It is so nice to see so many in front of me when I stand on the podium, and I am thankful for each of them. Now, onwards to Switzerland to try and keep this momentum going!”

On the Saturday Gajser continued his excellent start to 2025 with a second-place finish in the MXGP of Trentino qualification race, held at the picturesque track in Pietramurata, Italy. Behind him, Ruben Fernandez showed excellent speed to come through from way outside the top 10, to cross the line in third place, only to be deducted two positions after an unlucky incident when involved in a chaotic battle for third.

Gajser wasn’t able to post a good time in practice, and so took to the gate in seventh position, but due to the nature of the start at this circuit, it wasn’t too much of a disadvantage. Using the full power of the Honda CRF450R he got a good jump off the line and rounded the first few corners inside the top five.

A couple of quick passes later and he was into second where he then set about trying to hunt down the leader. Unfortunately for the #243, their laptimes were very similar and he wasn’t able to make any in-roads into the lead and instead had to settle for second place.

“I didn’t have my best day, especially in timed practice when I could only finish seventh, but I was able to make the right changes and got off to a good start in the qualifying race. This made things a lot easier, as I only had to make a couple of passes to get into second place. Unfortunately, the leader had already pulled a good gap by this stage and although I had a good pace, we were matching laptimes. Still, it was great to hear all the Slovenian fans around the track and I’m excited to go out for the motos tomorrow where I’ll be looking for my sixth win at this venue.”

Despite finishing second in the qualification race, Gajser felt there was more to come and after working with the team on some changes with the bike, man and machine was in perfect synchronisation in today’s GP-scoring races. In race one, a good start saw him move into second place very early on, where he then proceeded to stalk the leader, waiting for the right time to pass.

That moment came with five laps to go, as the Slovenian swept through in one of the rutted corners. Despite pressure, he held on for the win but also knew that he’d have to repeat that performance in race two if he wanted to take his sixth overall at the picturesque Pietramurata circuit.
