  • Race Report

HRC factory rider, Tim Gajser just continues to build his points lead as he took out his 51st Grand Prix victory, with a 1-1 performance at the MXGP of France. Similar to Spain last week, he was truly in a class of his own.

Second overall was Romain Febvre of the Kawasaki factory team with 2-2 scores and third was Lucas Coenen of the Red Bull KTM factory team with 3-3 scores.

Championship points are now Tim Gajser 167 points, Romain Febvre 138pts, Maxime Renaux 121pts, Lucas Coenen 107pts and Glenn Coldenhoff also 107pts.

Tim Gajser: Yes, I mean, it was a good pace of riding and I enjoyed it. It started raining before both our races and the second race I need to make some passes. I enjoyed it a lot out there and the bike was working amazing, so thanks to the team. I had two really good motos and the first one Romain was pushing, but I got the win. Second one I had a comfortable lead and won. Looking forward to Riola in the sand. We worked so hard there in the winter, so I hope it pays off.

Romain Febvre: I am happy, a rebound from the mud last weekend. First moto I came close to Tim, but I had an issue with the bike and it was smoking. Second start, somebody hit me at the back and I was 18th in the first turn and then 11th first lap and came back to second, so happy about that. I need to fight with Tim, he is getting away.

Lucas Coenen: What can I saw, got the podium out of the day and now we try and get better results, I tried to pass Febvre, but then it started raining and I thought, lets just get the 3-3. Looking forward to Sardinia next and want to thank the team, they have worked so hard for me.

MXGP Moto Two

Coldenhoff led the second MXGP moto from Coenen, Gifting, Ludwig, Renaux, Gajser, Pancar, Jonass, Febvre and Horgmo in 10th. Gajser quickly past Renaux and into fourth spot. Vlaanderen and Fernandez at the back of the pack. Bogers crashed into a hay bale and Jonass passed Ludwig, who is now in ninth place.

Gifting a huge roadblock as he gets in the way of Gajser and Coldenhoff 2.1 seconds ahead of Coenen, with Gifting 3.5 behind the leader. Coldenhoff flying with a 2.7 second lead now and Gajser finally passed Gifting. Febvre into fifth place.

Coenen closed the gap to Coldenhoff, as Gajser moved past Coenen and into second place. The gap between Coldenhoff and Gajser was just 1.4 seconds, with Coenen a further second back in third, then Gifting, Febvre, Jonass, Guadagnini, Renaux, Horgmo and Pancar 10th.

Gajser all over Coldenhoff for the lead and on lap five the Dutchman was feeling the heat. Febvre into fourth place with a pass on Gifting and Guillod into 10th as Pancar dropped to 11th. Gajser into the lead and expect him to just build a large lead now over the others.

Coenen slipped over and handed Febvre third place and already the lead by Gajser was two seconds. Lap six it was Gajser, Coldenhoff, Febvre, Coenen, Gifting, Jonass, Guadagnini, Renaux, Guillod and Horgmo now 10th.

Lap eight and Gajser was now 7.4 seconds ahead of Coldenhoff, who had a little more than a second over Febvre with Coenen a further two seconds back. Then came Gifting, Guadagnini, Jonass, Renaux, Guillod and Horgmo still 10th. Febvre onto Coldenhoff, and looking for a way past the Dutchman on his Fantic machine.

The rain started again on lap nine and this will only suit Gajser and his lead. The lead was eight seconds on lap 10 with Coldenhoff and Febvre still in a fight for the lead. Febvre into second place and nine seconds behind Gajser. Coenen 12.4 seconds back in fourth place. Coenen into third on lap 12. The lead by Gajser over Febvre was 12 seconds. Gajser wins it from Febvre and Coenen and that was also the podium positions.
