European Pre-Season - Whats On

I know we all await the start of the AMA supercross championship, which starts in a months time, but amazingly the GP pre-season is also just a couple of weeks away.

It’s going to be a busy February, for the best Grand Prix riders as they have a full February, with possibly three races for those wishing to take in racing every weekend, leading up to the start of the 2025 MXGP championship, set for Argentina on the first weekend of March.

February 9 will see the European season begin with international events at Mantova in Italy and Hawkstone Park in England. A week later it will be the second round of the Italian International championship at Montevarchi on February 16, and that same weekend Lacapelle Marival in France will run. A week later on February 23, Sommieres in France will host the final international race, with the opening round of the World MXGP championship a week after that event.

Hawkstone Park looks like it will again be the pick of the races, with a long, long list of GP riders racing. Conrad Mewse, the big favourite in the UK will have his hands full, as Romain Febvre, Jago Geerts, Kay De Wolf, Calvin Vlaanderen, Maxime Renaux and Adam Sterry on the list so far.

HRC will do the Italian international races, as will Lucas Coenen and you would expect being that he rides for an Italian team in the Red Bull De Carli KTM outfit, that he would do the Italian races.

"We will do the two International Italian races, we will do those and then go to Argentina and see what is going to be, but I am excited to go to Argentina. We will do those two races in Italy to get the race rhythm and get everything ready for Argentina."

I would also imagine that the Ducati line up of Jeremy Seewer and Mattia Gaudganini will be racing in Italy in the pre-season and Ducati haven't been mentioned yet for Hawkstone Park, defending Hawkstone Park champion, Glenn Coldenhoff and his Fantic factory team mates are in for the English race though.

Jeffrey Herlings is still recovering from his off-season injury and will miss Hawkstone and probably won't be back until the opening round in Argentina, if that. There are also the Spanish races that run prior to the opening MXGP round in Argentina, although those races usually only see Spanish riders appearing.

Romain Febvre is also in for the two French International races, as is Pauls Jonass. The Kawasaki factory team are currently in Sardinia, but Febvre cannot wait to get racing again in England and France.

"We will be here testing until the end of January, and my first pre-season will be Hawkstone Park on the ninth of February and I will do the two international races in France, Lacapelle and Sommieres on the 16th and 23rd of February."

So, just a couple of weeks to wait before the MXGP racers are on track again and putting their off-season preperation to the test. I think the most exciting thing is to see how Lucas Coenen does against Tim Gajser in Mantova and Montevarchi, but Hawkstone Park is also a race worth keeping an eye on.
