Eli Tomac has scored his 53rd main event win over an 11-year run in AMA supercross championship and not only did he get the win, but he also takes the red plate into round three at A2. He sat down and spoke to the World media, and this is what he told us.

MXlarge: A lot of emotion and it has to be emotionally charged. 11th straight season of winning in the premier class, how does it feel?

Tomac: It is up there on the list for wins. It’s been a while since I won a 20-minute main, it’s been a long time, I didn’t get one last year, so, it’s a big thing for me, not just winning a triple crown, so winning a 20-minute main, that is a big thing for me. Just coming back and proving I am in better condition and in better shape. Then also regrouping from last week, getting the lead and then tipping it over, that was so frustrating. It was nice to get it done the whole way.

MXlarge: I think there is a lot of questions from me and a lot of people, if you were going to be Eli Tomac from the last tonight and you answered those questions to everybody. What questions did you answer for yourself tonight and was there any (for yourself)?

Tomac: Like I said, getting it done in the real deal, not in those short races, not coming from the back or getting any gifts with it. Just making it happen, all the way. And improving on area’s I thought I was weak in and those coming into effect and working.

MXLarge: Couple of close calls with the lappers near the end there and how did you navigate that with Jett right behind you?

Tomac: That was a frustrating part of the race, and I thought Jett was going to get me, because I sat behind Vince (Friese) for maybe half a lap, somewhere around there, maybe a little less. Then, of course when you are behind a guy, you are anticipating where you think they are going to go and most of the time you have a good sense of where they will go and that just didn’t happen at all. After that supercross triple, where you go 90 and then do the on-off there, there was a tone of track on the left side and that is where I went and he just drifted over, going through that lane and I thought I was hosed. Landing there, it was super close, man, which is all I can say, it was wild, and I thought I was going to give up the race because of that situation. It was so close there, even though there was a lot of tracks open at the beginning of that, for that not to happen.

MXLarge: Where are we at in our sport when you have to ride wide open for the whole race and you are standing up around 180-degree bowls turns into the whoops. Did you sit down at all, you stood all the way around.

Tomac: The days of getting a big lead and coasting in, are hard to come by. We are not going to get those types of races with the field we have. We were wide open.

MXLarge: We have heard about you reaching the flow state, was that where you were, because at one stage you two nearly collided on the triple, do you remember that happening.

Tomac: I do (remember) and its nice to race with a guy like Jett and most of the 450 guys have self-awareness for that type of thing. You know its going to be tight and most of us know if we go wheel to wheel over a triple, it will not end well. You try and get in that flow state, but for me tonight, it was just full on for those 20 minutes. There wasn’t any time to take a break for myself.

MXlarge: What was the toughest about tonight’s track?

Tomac: I guess for me, the toughest was the dirt changed throughout the dirt. Some parts you had traction and some parts in a turn were kind of slick. It was tricky that way and you go through the bowl turns after the mechanics and I had to change up my lines a lot, just because the track was coming up that way, with the changes in traction.
