Nestaan Husqvarna factory rider Lucas Coenen has carried on from his Spanish GP win a week ago and his Saturday qualification win, to also win the opening moto of the championship and clearly, he is the man of the moment in this 2024 MX2 championship. Second was Red Bull KTM Factory rider Andrea Adamo and third the team-mate of Coenen, Kay De Wolf, who had come back from around 15th place after an early crash with Liam Everts.

Championship points are now Kay de Wolf 320pts, Simon Laengenfelder 270pts, Lucas Coenen 258pts, Liam Everts 252pts and Andrea Adamo 239pts.

Lucas Coenen: It has been a good race. I started around P6 and the track was fast for everyone and I saw Kay and Liam take the inside and I thought, no, they are going to crash. It would have been cool to be one, two, but we can try that in the second race.

Sasha Coenen led the opening MX2 moto from Everts, De Wolf, Coenen, Adamo, Karssmakers, Haarup, Langenfelder, Zanchi, and Bruce. De Wolf and Coenen in a great battle for third place as Everts and Sasha Coenen tried to get away. Haarup passed Karssmakers for sixth place.

Lucas Coenen into third, but De Wolf repassed him and they were suddenly all over Everts for second place. Everts and de Wolf both went down and dropped back to ninth for Everts and 11th for de Wolf.

Everts moved into eight and de Wolf moved into 10th as the two Coenen brothers dominated in first and second, Sasha with a 5.7 second lead over Lucas. On lap three it was Sasha, Lucas, Adamo, Haarup, Langenfelder, Zanchi, Everts, Karssmakers, de Wolf and Bruce.

Everts and De Wolf moving through the pack and close together once again. Great battle between the two as Everts holds off de Wolf, but on lap four De Wolf moved into seventh with Everts eight.

On lap four the lead was just 3.2 between the Coenen brothers, and Everts not letting de Wolf get away from him. Lap five the lead was 2.7 seconds. The Coenen brothers were locked together on lap six as again Lucas looks the quicker of the two Belgian brothers.

Lucas Coenen into the lead and on lap six it was Lucas Coenen, Sasha Coenen, Adamo, Haarup, Langenfelder, de Wolf, Zanchi, Everts, Karssmakers and Elzinga 10th. Lap eight and it was Lucas Coenen, Adamo, Sasha Coenen, Haarup, Langenfelder, de Wolf, Everts, Zanchi, Karssmakers and Elzinga.

Sasha Coenen crashed and struggling to get up and going again. Lap 10 the top ten was Lucas Coenen, Adamo, Haarup, Langenfelder, de Wolf, Everts, Zanchi, Karssmakers, Elzinga and Walvoort 10th. Sasha Coenen down again while in 14th and miles back. Everts with levers struggling to keep the pace of de Wolf as the gap between those two was now 16 seconds.

On lap 13 the lead by Lucas Coenen was 11 seconds over Adamo, then Haarup a further eight seconds back, followed by Langenfelder, de Wolf, Everts, Zanchi, Karssmakers, Prugnieres and Elzinga. Haarup felled by Langenfelder, who moved into third and it dropped Haarup back to fifth place. De Wolf now into fourth and really making up for his crash earlier.

De Wolf all over Langenfelder for third spot in the moto and really looking strong. De Wolf moved into third and again extended his championship points lead over the German and Everts. The Dutchman really showing on a tough day, he can still be a top three rider. Coenen wins from Adamo and de Wolf.
