Coenen Start to Finish
Red Bull KTM factory rider Lucas Coenen has won yet another MXGP moto with a very impressive performance. The Belgian took the lead early and never surrendered the the top spot.
Chasing the whole moto was series leader and HRC factory rider, Tim Gajser, with another Honda man, Ruben Fernandez finishing in third place. Another day of points gained by Gajser as he extended his series lead over second placed Romain Febvre, who finished in sixth spot.
Championship points are now Tim Gajser 305 points, 49 points ahead of Romain Febvre on 256pts, Glenn Coldenhoff 209pts, Lucas Coenen 202pts, and Maxime Renaux 188pts.
Lucas Coenen: I was riding really good and I knew the start was important and I took a good start. Tim was pushing early and he knew what to do and I am still learning. I got a little bit of arm pump and that worried me, but I am happy with the win.
MXGP Moto One
Coenen in the lead on lap one and then Seewer, Gajser, Fernandez, Bonacorsi, Vlaanderen, Tonus, Febvre, Horgmo, and Pancar. Herlings back in 14th place and Mitch Everts 18th. Gajser all over Coenen and looking for a way past the Belgian.
Already a big gap to third place as Coenen and Gajser put on a huge show for the crowd. Gajser a mistake and Coenen got away a little and Herlings dropped to 16th place and then 17th. Really struggling with the pace still.
Coenen riding beautifully as he held a 1.2 second lead over Gajser with Fernandez in third, but five seconds off the leaders. Seewer a very nice fourth at home, then came Bonacorsi, Febvre, Renaux, Horgmo, Vlaanderen, and Tonus a sensational 10th.
Coenen extended his lead to 2.8 over Gajser on lap five and then came Fernandez, Bonacorsi, Seewer, Febvre, Renaux, Horgmo, Vlaanderen and Tonus still 10th. Herlings up to 15th, but not making too much ground on the guys ahead. Febvre a crash and back in eight place.
On lap seven it was Coenen with a 2.8 second lead over Gajser, then Fernandez, Bonacorsi, Seewer, Renaux, Horgmo, Febvre, Vlaanderen and Coldenhoff into 10th. Herlings still 15th, between Bogers and Geerts. The lead by Coenen was suddenly 4.3 seconds. Geerts passed Herlings for 15th place, the Dutchman now 16th.
Lap 10 and it was Coenen, Gajser, Fernandez, Bonacorsi, Renaux, Seewer, Febvre, Horgmo, Vlaanderen and Coldenhoff. Geerts also moved past Bogers for 14th spot. Febvre charged into sixth place with a pass on old rival, Seewer.
The top ten was Coenen, Gajser, Fernandez, Bonacorsi, Renaux, Febvre, Seewer, Horgmo, Vlaanderen and Coldenhoff. Two Brits fighting for the spot of top UK rider, with Sterry in 17th and Watson in 19th spot. Coenen wins it from Gajser and Fernandez.
