Bruce Wins Overall MX2
Young British rider Bobby Bruce of the Steve Dixon Kawasaki team has won the opening round of the British MX2 championship. With a performance of 1-2 he showed great speed around the Hawkstone Park circuit. Second overall was Tommy Searle of the Triumph factory team with 2-3 scores and third overall was Billy Askew with 6-1.
Bobby Bruce: I mean, Bill started with a good pace, the pace was a lot quicker than the first moto. I towed behind him and then Tommy came and passed me, but I think he stalled it or something. We needed this as a team, after last weekend.
Billy Askew: I am happy with that. I felt good out there and that is my style, holeshot and rider out front. I sort of knew where they were and I didn't want to do anything stupid and just bring it home. I have had to pace, but needed to put it together and this gives me some confidence for the next one.
Askew took the lead of MX2 moto two from Bruce, Searle, as Doensen went down in the first lap. Askew a one second lead over Bruce early, with Searle in fourth place. Searle into third place and the lead by Askew over Bruce was less than a second, with Searle around six seconds off the leader.
Askew had got the lead to 4.7 seconds over Bruce, with Searle some 5.2 seconds back from the moto one winner. Searle moved past Bruce for second and had cut the lead to just four seconds. Searle a mistake and dropped back to third place. Askew won the moto and Bruce the overall.
