For anyone above the age of maybe 50, the name Bob Hannah is without question a memory of times gone by, but what a time that was. I was just 10 years old when I first heard the name and while I was a Marty Smith fan, Hannah’s biggest rival, one of my brothers loved Hannah and when we went racing, there was I, decked out in Honda gear and my brother in the Yamaha colours. Yes, the 1970s was when kids did that!! Hahaha.

Now, nearly 50 years later, we take a look at the 1977 Anaheim supercross, won by Hannah. For us oldies, you cannot beat watching these old videos and maybe some of the young folk also enjoy them. Back when the World was a very simple place and getting coverage from the AMA supercross was a month wait, until your local magazines, or Motocross Action turned up at the newsagent.

Of course, for the American public, you could grab Cycle News on the Thursday, with all the weekends action, but it wasn't as easy for the rest of the World. We in Australia had REVS, which might be lucky to get it into their next issue, but it usually meant waiting a week or two.

Times sure have changed with all of us able to watch it live and read about it on websites around the World. The mystery of the sport in America was something else back then, and when we did finally get to see the American racers race, they were more like super-human than just normal racers. Sometimes I wonder which is better, full coverage, or the mystery of the 1970s.

A1, one of the biggest nights in the sport and something we all await after a long winter/off season. MXlarge will bring you live coverage from the stadium and also a full report, interviews and highlights on Sunday morning.

Overseas viewers can catch the action on the supercrosslive service below. You can find the live timing here and the full results here. Later in the week we will also have the schedule and much more and again in 2025, we will bring you everything you need to know from the AMA Supercross championship. Also live timing for your mobile right here.
