Australian Supercross - October 12
Just a week after the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations, we are kept entertained with the opening round of the Australian Supercross championship and as always, its going to be a great series with some big names involved. You can see the track right here.
The high-octane, adrenaline-fueled excitement of the FOX Australian Supercross Championship returns to Queensland for the first time in five years, with Redcliffe set to host the opening round of the series, on Saturday 12th October at Kayo Stadium, which has been sold out.
Australia’s 2022 Motocross Champion, Aaron Tanti, has joined Boost Mobile Honda for the 2024 Australian Supercross Championship. In 2022, Tanti also secured 3rd overall in the SX1 class, highlighted by a victory in Adelaide over five-time champion Justin Brayton. In 2023, he finished 4th in the Motocross Championship, but his Supercross season was hampered by injuries. Determined to push himself further, Tanti took on the challenge of racing in America in 2024, despite a difficult year plagued by injuries. He ended his overseas stint with a strong 4th place overall in the Canadian Motocross Championship.
The rider line up has received an international boost with last weeks announcement from Honda Australia that US supercross star Joey Savatgy will race the entire series for the Factory Honda Racing Team.
The resilient 30-year-old, who hails from Georgia, is excited to be lining up in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive Australian series starting October 12 at Kayo Stadium in Redcliffe.
Savatgy will face off against his Honda teammate and reigning Australian Supercross Champion Dean Wilson. Hailing from Glasgow, Wilson returns to defend his crown following a standout 2023 season, where he clinched the Australian title. Also joining the squad, is former Australian Motocross Champion, Aaron Tanti. An Australian Supercross Championship title threat in 2022, Tanti will be looking to return to his previous form on the CRF450R.
American Supercross regulars Shane McElrath and Cole Thompson have been heavily linked to Honda Racing’s SX2 program in the 2024 Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX), all but certain after appearing on the class entry list aboard CRF machinery.
Among the other key challengers is nine-time Australian Supercross and Motocross Champion Matt Moss, who will ride for CDR Yamaha Monster Energy on a YZ450F this season. Moss, eager to add another championship to his impressive resume, will be competing alongside new teammate Jed Beaton. Beaton, after several seasons racing in the FIM World Motocross in Europe, enters the supercross series in fine form, having claimed runner-up in the 2024 ProMX Championship, which saw one of the tightest MX1 title battles in history.
Also, in the mix will be 2023 SX1 runner up and now Empire Kawasaki rider, Luke Clout, who finished his last Australian campaign with a win and will be looking to go one better this season.
One of Australia’s highest credentialed supercross racers, Matt Moss, will join the CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team for the 2024 Australian Supercross Championship, starting on October 12.
Moss, a nine time Australian motocross and supercross champion, reignites his relationship with Craig Dack and the CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team after first working with them in 2006 and is already desperate to hit the track in preparation for the 2024 championship.
Moss had an injury interrupted 2023 season, but was the highest placed Australian rider in 2022 behind US Import, Justin Brayton, is fit and fired up for a huge year and determined to be the first Australian rider to win the championship in a number of years.
“It’s awesome that Craig and I have been able to put this deal together and we share the same goal for this season. To be an Australian rider, on an Australian team, to win an Australian championship as it’s been dominated by US riders in recent times. I know we are both motivated and determined to make that happen,” Moss explains.
After a solid outdoor season Nathan Crawford, it was all going to plan for the SX1 debut, however a small injury has kept his pre-season training away from the track and in the physio room. With only 8 days on testing on the bike, Nathan will be coming into Redcliffe with sticking to plan A, and that’s coming away from the opening round with a W.
Kyle Webster and Brodie Connolly who will race the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations this weekend are yet to be finalized to race the Australian supercross championship.
