Andrea Adamo - The Winner

With a World MX2 championship already in his pocket, Andrea Adamo of the Red Bull KTM Factory effort knows what it takes to fight until the job is done. While he struggled somewhat in 2024, as the defending champion, his 2025 performances have once again risen to the hights of his championship winning season.

After five rounds of the MX2 championship, Adamo has been inconsistent, but at times shown amazing speed, and his Grand Prix victories in France with a 2-1 performance and the win last weekend in Italy, with 3-2 results, he climbed to third in the MX2 championship standings with 2013 points.

While it was just his fourth Grand Prix victory in Trentino, the signs are there, that he has the potential to beat defending champion, Kay De Wolf on a regular basis and while the Dutchman is still the man to beat and his 231points at the top of the MX2 rankings makes his the favourite to win the title in 2025, do not be surprised if the former champion puts up a big fight and can even more into second place in the championship after his coming weekend.

What has really made life difficult for Adamo though is his zero points in the opening moto in Argentina and the same situation in the Saturday qualifier last weekend, where he again failed to score any points. When you consider he is 18 points behind de Wolf, those two zero’s mean a lot.

On Saturday in the MX2 Qualifying race Adamo finished in 14th. The first MX2 moto was slick and slimy until the track developed some dry lines and patches and formed deep ruts. Adamo started well, charged to 2nd and was only bumped to 3rd by reigning world champion Kay De Wolf in the final few corners.

Adamo, who celebrated his first career win at Trentino in 2023, bided his time behind holeshotter Sacha Coenen in the second moto and when the Belgian slipped out of the lead in the first laps the Italian had a clear track.

The calm was momentary as the former world champion ran into backmarkers late on, and Thibault Benistant was able to close and pass the #80. Still, 2nd was sufficient for Adamo’s second victory of the season and second from the last three rounds.

“Amazing! A solid day but again, we had issues with the lappers. It was a bummer not to win the second moto and after putting in a solid gap when I was in the lead. Anyway…I’m super-happy to win the GP that’s the most important thing and to give the fans what they deserved for their support. I hope we can keep this momentum now. We are doing good.”

So, as the KTM factory rider now heads to Switzerland for round six of the 2025 MX2 championship, you just know his eye will be on the red plate and hoping he can put together three very solid motos over Saturday and Monday and climb a little closer to the series favourite and that bright red number plate.
