Adamo Wins Moto One - MX2
Former World MX2 champion Andrea Adamo has won the opening MX2 race in Mantova today. The Italian KTM factory rider gained the lead mid race, when early leader Sasha Coenen had to pit for new goggles. From that moment on, Adamo just took his time and didn’t risk anything, as Coenen tried to make his way back to the front.
In horrible muddy conditions Sasha Coenen got a quick lead and pulled away from the field, with Vata and Adamo battling for second, with the former World champion making a pass mid race.
Coenen looking brilliant in the tough conditions as he continued to pull away from Adamo, with Lata third, then Simon Langenfelder, although on lap five Ferruccio Zanchi passed the German for fourth place as Cas Valk held down sixth place, followed by Karlis Reisulis, Quentin Prugnieres, Brando Rispoli and Mattia Nardo.
By lap five the lead was nine seconds, as Coenen continued to blitz the wet conditions. Zanchi a problem as Langenfelder and Valk both went past the Italian, and some dangers for Coenen as he worked his way past the lapped riders. Really hard work for Coenen with the lapped riders and getting filled in by the Mantova mud.
Coenen very aggressive, despite the risk of the lapped riders, but wide open and still showing that high risk style, we have come to love in the past. Suddenly the gap between Coenen and Adamo was just 2.6 seconds. On lap eight Coenen got caught in the mud trying to get into the goggle lane and stopped to get fresh goggles.
On lap eight it was Coenen, Adamo, Lata, Langenfelder, Valk, Zanchi, Prugnieres, Reisulis, Rispoli and Nardo. A lap later it was Adamo with the lead Lata second, then Langenfelder and Coenen, with Valk in fifth place.
The lead by Adamo over Lata was 12 seconds and these conditions would probably make it difficult for Lata to make up any time, as Coenen moved past Langenfelder and was 16 seconds off the leader. Coenen was catching Lata for second place as they were 13.5 and 14.8 seconds off the lead of Adamo, and Langenfelder was 20 seconds back from the leader. Adamo wins it from Lata and Coenen.
