A Celebration of Namur

While the MXGP of Belgium will be played out at the Lommel circuit this weekend, 150 kilometers south and at the legendary city of Namur, the fifth edition of the Namur Legends event will be held. Organized by Thierry Materne, it will undoubtedly be one of the first highlights of this 2024 season, in terms of Old School Motocross.

This great commemorative celebration, in the form of old-school motocross, born in the imagination of Thierry Materne in 2013, aims to immerse us in the heart of the Legend, to celebrate and preserve the Memory of the Grand Prix 500 of the Citadel of Namur, the last edition of which took place in 2007. Indeed, Namur has been a mecca for motocross for over 75 years and it is unanimously recognized that our National GP was to Motocross what the Monaco GP is still to Formula 1!

The event, now biannual, is held on the small Circuit Magique d’Erpent, located in the entity of Namur, not far from the Citadel and will allow everyone to immerse themselves in the “past present” in this Motocross du Bonheur, as was the case on 3 occasions in 2016, 2018 and 2022.

On Saturday 27 July, as in 2022, a new procession of vintage motocross bikes will be held. It will start at 4:00 p.m. from the Erpent circuit and will cross the City of Namur, ending at the top of the Citadel and back. A unique moment to relive again and again! When you are on the Esplanade de la Citadelle, don’t forget to visit the Espace Mémoriel located within the grounds of the “Le Panorama” establishment.

Sunday, July 28 will be the day of motocross itself, which takes place on the Erpent circuit, traced in the undergrowth, on the edge of the ponds, and which has fun complicating the life of the pilot with its natural differences in altitude and its tortuous passages. No less than 7 categories of vintage machines will compete over 2 rounds by competing in an Inter-Nations ranking. Not forgetting the holding of an exhibition of remarkable motorcycles and a parts exchange.

Sunday will see the Race of Champions with former World 500cc champion Graham Noyce leading the way, with former GP winners and World number two's, Gerrit Wolsink, Sylvain Geboers, Marc Velkeneers and top GP riders Jean Jacques Bruno, Jean Claude Laquaye, Rob Andrews, Christophe Bertrand, Werner Dewit, Damien Denil, and David Wynants.

The price: Entrance to the Namur Legend 2024 site will cost you €10. Entrance is free for children under 12, provided they are accompanied by an adult, otherwise it is €5 per child. Find out more here: Namur Legend

Address of the Circuit: From the E411 / Exit N°15 Loyers / Access at N°9 Rue du Grand Tige in 5101 Namur (Erpent).
